Third Reich Walking Tour of Munich in English

Munich is one of the most beautiful and beloved cities in Europe today, but our 3rd Reich Tour Munich will show you that it has a tragic history. In the middle decades of the 20th century, it was known as the “Hauptstadt der Bewegung” – the “Capital of the Movement,” or the official home of Nazism and loaction of the national party HQ. This was the city that the Allied Supreme Commander General Eisenhower called “the cradle of the Nazi beast.”

Munich was Adolf Hitler’s adopted home town, and the birthplace of the Nazi Party. It was from the back streets and beerhalls of Munich that a small gang of thugs first emerged that later grew to assault German democracy and world peace. Before anyone else in Germany heard his name, Adolf Hitler was a notorious beerhall orator and public demagogue in this city, known only to his small band of fanatical followers as “the Führer.” The romantic old streets and plazas of the Bavarian capital witnessed some of the most infamous events in modern history – such as the Beer Hall Putsch, Hitler’s first, failed attempt to sieze power, anti-Semitic pogroms, the destruction of synagogues, and the public burning of books.

The streets of Munich carry the memory of all of this today, and we’ll walk you through those terrible times. Many original buildings survive. You’ll see where the party began, the beer halls where Hitler made his early speeches, where the Brownshirts terrorised all who stood in their way, buildings that still carry the physical scars of those years of terror and war, and the arrogant monuments built to the glory of the Third Reich.

We’ll tell you the story of Hitler’s rise to power, and also of those who resisted him in the name of democracy. Walking from Marienplatz to Königsplatz, your tour guide will bring you back in time, from the confused and angry days at the end of the first world war to the dark times of the second world war.

We show you the official Nazi Headquarters from where Hitler bullied the world.

Walking around Munich Old Town today in the streets surrounding Marienplatz, we pass many buildings that still bear the scars of the terrible World War that Hitler launched upon humanity.

The irony is that while much of central Munich was devastated by Allied bombing, many of the grandiose buildings constructed on Hitler’s orders survived, and still stand. Alongside them are memorials to the city’s many victims of Nazism, including those who sacrificed their lives in opposing Hitler’s hateful ideology. Just a few hours walking around central Munich allows us to tell you the full story.

Our Third Reich Tour is unlike any other. Nowhere else can you have a unique visitor experience like this because no other place has a history quite like this.
